Fall Mantle Decor DIY

Hello Friends!

I don't know about you, but these last few weeks have been crazy! I remember as a kid, summertime was a bunch of lazy days spent swimming, reading and playing with friends. Now, I try not to schedule too much for my kids, but I feel like we are running around now more than during the school year!

Recently, I accidentally scheduled my kids for a week of day camp at their school. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention to the camp times, so Elliot was scheduled for the morning camp and Gavin and Will had the afternoon session.  I found myself running back and forth to their school dropping off and picking up all week. The bright side to this was that I was able to take my two older kids around on errands I wouldn't normally run, with a 3 year old in tow.

At this time of year, as much as I love summer, I am hot and ready (already!) to think about Fall and all the joys it brings. I was inspired by a trip to Kirkland's. I love that place, by the way. (And P.S. not paid to say that!) My daughter was at her camp, and the older ones were at a tennis lesson, so I ran over there quickly to get a full length mirror I had been eyeing for a long time. While I was there, I saw this gem.  (And it's on SALE right now!!)

I knew at that moment, I needed to change out our current mantle decoration for fall. Immediately, I pictured it on my mantle with a garland made with glittery fall leaves. So, one of the errands I took my boys on was to Michael's and Hobby Lobby to check out what, if any, fall garlands they had already. They both had them, but I found (almost) what I was looking for at Hobby Lobby. They had the best selection, and would you believe it, they had TONS of CHRISTMAS stuff out?!?!?! What!?! The day we went, I think was July 1st. What the heck? Anyway...

The garland wasn't quite what I was hoping for. All it needed was a little glitter.  And glue to attach it to. The boys and I located the glue and the glitter at Hobby Lobby. I knew this was a craft Elliot would want to help me with and one that she would be able to help me with.

She insisted on taking this picture. She was excited to help!

Couldn't decide which picture showed it better!
Funny face!

Supplies: Glitter in Pumpkin and Espresso- sounds like a good beverage!
Glue and glitter in a box was crucial to containing the mess

Here I am spraying the leaves with the Tacky Spray.

I let Elliot sprinkle the glitter on.

Look at the mess!! Glad it was MOSTLY contained in the box! I am not sure how great the pictures show the fabulous sparkle the glitter added to it. I was very happy with the results. I hope it doesn't lose glitter all over the place! I will be sure to update you when I actually create the mantle for the Fall!

Happy Crafting!

Trying out this signature! What do you guys think? It's a little big, but fun!

Friday Favorites! October 14th

Happy Friday!  We are linking up with  Erika ,  Narci  &  Andrea  for the weekly installment of Friday Favorites! This week my very top favorite is ELECTRICITY! Where I live in Virginia, was affected by Hurricane Matthew. By the time he reached us, he was downgraded to a post-tropical storm or something, but still there was a lot of damage in our area, and people are still dealing with it. We were very lucky. We had no major damage to our home. We did, however, lose power for 40 hours. Yes, I counted!  We were absolutely one of the lucky ones, as we had prepared in advance! And several years ago, we had a generator installed, so we had power to the essentials, like the refrigerator and some lights and a few outlets. Very helpful in keeping all of our devices charged!! My next favorite is celebrating this guy's birthday with his school friends a few days early! We had a video game bus come and park in front of our house. Several of Will's friends came and

Stranded! September 14: Movies

This month's Stranded Linkup hosted by Shay at Mix & Match Mama and Erika at A Little Bit of Everything is all about Movies!! I don't know about you, but this is a tough one! I love so many movies! I think these three I could watch over and over and over. I think that I have to go with my all-time favorite movie as a child for the first pick. 1st Pick Oh my gosh, you guys! I LOVED this movie SO much when I was little! Hayley Mills is my favorite! This version was the only one in existence when I was young, so I am biased and think this one is MUCH better than the Lindsay Lohan remake. 2nd Pick I mean, who doesn't love Will Ferrell and his crazy antics?! And in a holiday movie!?! We have watched this so many times during Christmastime and every other time of the year! My kids can quote many favorite lines! 3rd Pick I think this one needs to be a newer comedy that my husband and I have watched so many times. I LOVE Paul Rud
