What's Up Wednesday! {11/23}

We are linking up with MelShay and Sheaffer for this month's edition of What's Up Wednesday!

What We're Eating This Week:

T-We are eating wonderful Thanksgiving food like many others out there!  This year is the first time in 14 years of marriage that we are not traveling somewhere for Thanksgiving, so I am doing all of the cooking.  I am actually really excited about it because I can make things just the way we like them.  I also bought a turkey breast this year since there is only 4 of us, and I am going to cook it in my slow cooker.  I found a new recipe online.  I promise to post the recipe if it turns out well!

S- Ditto to Trina! We are hosting a smaller Thanksgiving this year and we will be eating the traditional stuff.  Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole and of course, dessert! I will be making pumpkin pie and apple pie.  But also...

If you haven't tried these little stars from the heavens, you need to get to your nearest Trader Joe's. Seriously. You won't be sorry. I am eating one as I type. SO GOOD!

What We're Reminiscing About:

T-Today in my kindergarten class we had our Thanksgiving program.  It made me think back to when my 2 girls had their programs.

Aren't they sweet?  Love them!

S- Is it bad to say, nothing?

What We're Loving...

T-I have been loving the great deals that Amazon has had already for Christmas.  I have to admit that I am an Amazon addict!  The last couple of years I have bought the majority of my gifts online, and most of those on Amazon.  There is just something so appealing about shopping in my cozy pj's!  You don't have to wait until Black Friday to get amazing deals.  You can also "watch" items that you are interested in and it will alert you on your phone when it becomes available.  If you are a Prime member, you also get deals that other shoppers don't get. I love it!

S- Hallmark movies. I cannot get enough lately. They are cheesy and so predictable, but I can't stop!  I love that they are lighthearted and someone always falls in love. They are definitely unrealistic, but in a world of really serious topics, I love to wind down with happy, light tv!

What We've Been Up To...

T- We have been busy as always with school and after school activities during the week.  On the weekends, we try to do fun activities as a family.  Most recently we attended a men's basketball game at the University of Richmond, which is a local private college.  I love that we live in an area so close to colleges and universities so that we can take our girls to games at different colleges throughout the year.

Wow!  My girls look alike, but it is really obvious in the above pictures.  We get asked all of the time if they are twins.  They are 2 years apart!

S- I still have yet to blog about it, but we just got back from a trip to Disney World! I spent all week last week catching up from that trip and trying to prepare for Thanksgiving! We had a great time! We got into the Christmas Spirit a little early by going to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas one evening!

I don't know if you can tell, but for this event, they cover Cinderella's Castle at the Magic Kingdom in icicles. It really is a breathtaking sight.  More to come on the trip later!

What We're Excited About...

T-I have been really excited about the Gilmore Girls revival on Netflix!  I know that I have blogged about it before, but it is only 3 days away now.  I can't wait to grab a cup of coffee and watch it!  I wish that Sara and I could figure out a way to watch it together.  We might have to Skype through an episode or two!

S- I am with Trina on this one! I CANNOT wait for Gilmore Girls! We will absolutely have to figure out a way to share our viewing experience long distance!

I am looking forward to spending this week and weekend with family. My niece and nephew are coming home!! And we are going to be spending time together and doing some family traditions together!

What We're Watching/Reading...

T-I haven't had a lot of time for TV or reading lately, but the time that I do have has been spent watching THE CROWN!  (I mentioned this is a previous blog post.)   I am obsessed and I can't wait to finish season 1!  Check it out on Netflix!

S- I have been reading Elin Hilderbrand's holiday trilogy. I am currently only half way through the second book, but it is good so far! It's a fun holiday read!

What We're Listening To...

T-Our local radio station started playing Christmas music this week, so every time we are in the car that is what the girls request.  They get their Christmas excitement from their dad.  Don't get me wrong, I love the Christmas season but my husband is known to listen to Christmas music year round!

S-I am enjoying John Mayer's newest single, "Love on the Weekend." And at this time of year, Trina will kill me for telling you this, but we used to love listening to Christmas music in college, and believe it or not, Kenny G!! Anyway, now anytime I hear his music, it transports me back to our college days together and procrastinating studying for exams!!

What We're Wearing...

T-I know that I write about Loft a lot, but I really do wear their clothes most days of the week!  If you have not tried anything from the Lou & Grey collection, you are missing out!  I am all about comfort.  Lou & Grey clothing is incredibly soft.  My newest favorite is the striped boatneck tunic, found here :http://www.loft.com/lou-&-grey-striped-signaturesoft-boatneck-tunic/410641?skuId=22199485&defaultColor=5126&colorExplode=false&catid=cat2600067

S- Plaid shirt, puffer vest, jeans and boots seem to make up my fall uniform this year. I just can't get enough!

Me and my mini-me who wanted to dress like Mommy on this day!

Goofy pic, but I love this Christmas lights necklace because it is so silly and festive this time of year, and the shirt from Old Navy cracks me up!

What We're Doing This Weekend...

T-We are going to a local farm to pick out our Christmas tree!  We let my girls take turns picking the tree.  It is my youngest daughter's turn.  The farm has an area where we can pet the horses and other animals, a hay ride, and hot chocolate next to a bonfire.  It is so much fun and a great way to start the Christmas season!

S-Family time! We will do our Black Friday tradition of getting our Santa visit and picture done! And watching Gilmore Girls!!

What We're Looking Forward To Next Month...

T-My family goes to Arlington National Cemetery each year to place wreaths on the graves for the Christmas season.  It is an amazing tradition and a wonderful experience.  My girls have gained a true appreciation for the military and the men and women who sacrifice everything for our freedom.  Here are some photos from years past:

S-I am looking forward to everything the holiday season has to offer! The getting together with friends! Visiting with family! The baking! The fun Christmas traditions we have! Spending time together as a family! Celebrating my husband's birthday! Celebrating my niece's 21st birthday! We have a lot going on and coming up!

What Else Is New...

T-Not really something "new", but this time change is killing me!  I hate how early it gets dark. The days are flying by as it is, but I feel like the time change speeds it up even more.  I don't understand why we need to "fall back" anymore!  Who's with me?!

S- I am with Trina! I dislike the time change as well! And nothing is really new around here either! We are gearing up for the holidays and trying to stay on top of all of that along with everyday life!  It's fun and stressful! I am making an effort to take a bit more joy in the season this year. I tend to get wrapped up in making everything great and doing more than is expected. This year, I want to try to enjoy the little moments a little more, and stress a little less.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!

Friday Favorites! October 14th

Happy Friday!  We are linking up with  Erika ,  Narci  &  Andrea  for the weekly installment of Friday Favorites! This week my very top favorite is ELECTRICITY! Where I live in Virginia, was affected by Hurricane Matthew. By the time he reached us, he was downgraded to a post-tropical storm or something, but still there was a lot of damage in our area, and people are still dealing with it. We were very lucky. We had no major damage to our home. We did, however, lose power for 40 hours. Yes, I counted!  We were absolutely one of the lucky ones, as we had prepared in advance! And several years ago, we had a generator installed, so we had power to the essentials, like the refrigerator and some lights and a few outlets. Very helpful in keeping all of our devices charged!! My next favorite is celebrating this guy's birthday with his school friends a few days early! We had a video game bus come and park in front of our house. Several of Will's friends came and

Ladies Who Link: August Edition: Back To School Prep

Hey everybody!!  Sorry for our absence on last month's linkup! I know all you dedicated readers, ok...reader (Hi Mom!) missed us terribly! Summer has been quite a bear around here. We have been traveling a lot and just existing with 3 kids and a puppy has been a long, exhausting challenge. All that said, I do love them all dearly and do my best to cherish our summer time together and making fun memories...amidst the screaming and fighting. Look for the good, right?? Now that I've gotten that out of the way... Thanks for coming by for our link up! And a special thank you to our other hosts:  Allie over at A Gal Named Al ,  Lisa at Coast to Coast ,  Tara at Mommy In A Nutshell  and  Holly over at Pink Lady !! Back to School Prep time! Obviously, I am quite excited that it is time to get THIS party started. I haven't actually had to do much back to school prep to share with you. We did do our usual Target run to get what we needed. My 8th grader needed some

Stranded! September 14: Movies

This month's Stranded Linkup hosted by Shay at Mix & Match Mama and Erika at A Little Bit of Everything is all about Movies!! I don't know about you, but this is a tough one! I love so many movies! I think these three I could watch over and over and over. I think that I have to go with my all-time favorite movie as a child for the first pick. 1st Pick Oh my gosh, you guys! I LOVED this movie SO much when I was little! Hayley Mills is my favorite! This version was the only one in existence when I was young, so I am biased and think this one is MUCH better than the Lindsay Lohan remake. 2nd Pick I mean, who doesn't love Will Ferrell and his crazy antics?! And in a holiday movie!?! We have watched this so many times during Christmastime and every other time of the year! My kids can quote many favorite lines! 3rd Pick I think this one needs to be a newer comedy that my husband and I have watched so many times. I LOVE Paul Rud
